Everybody loves the charms of Gran Canaria, top footballers are no exception, which is why the annual Maspalomas football tournament always attracts some of Europes best teams, eager to combine a little mid season break with some competitive action. The 2009 event runs from Tuesday January 13 to Saturday January 17, and is a must for all sports fans.

This is the 26th year of the tournament and the line up is as impressive as ever, Borussia Moenchengladbach from Germany, Grasshoppers Zurich from Switzerland, Shakhtar Donetsk from the Ukraine, and Las Palmas from Gran Canaria.

Shakhtar will be of interest to Tottenham fans as they have drawn Spurs in the next round of the UEFA Cup. Eurosport will be covering the games, but you can’t beat being there. The Maspalomas area boasts some great sports facilities, including 2 full size golf courses and a wealth of sea based water sports. No wonder so many people see it as the ideal place to invest in a sunny future.

We had our Christmas Dinner at the restaurant El Cenador in Puerto Rico. It was a wonderful dinner and we had a great time together.
