Work of art on Gran Canaria beach

Sun, sea, sand and great beaches, it’s enough to inspire anyone, and in Gran Canaria it regularly brings out the sand artists in the capital Las Palmas. The Las Canteras beach is the unique canvas for a series of ambitious sand sculptures, and the latest depicts a very modern view of The Last Supper.
The work, La Ultiman Cena, features great leaders of the modern age such as Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Theresa. The sculpture is 3 metres high and 16 metres long, and will be on display until April 12. Past works have celebrated religious events and scenes from history.

The Italians are as keen as they come for competitive cycling, so it was nice to see them hold one of their prestige events, Gran Fondo del Sur, in Gran Canaria. On this occasion the spirit of competition was overtaken by the love of cycling and a chance to see some of the beautiful surroundings of the south of Gran Canaria.
The weather and the quiet rural roads, attract around 200,000 cyclists a year to Gran Canaria, some just enjoy a casual tour but others like to pit themselves against the more challenging mountain roads. Gran Fondo del Sur was in the leisurely category, and groups of 3 cyclists went off at a time to enjoy the journey. They were able to sample the delights of Vecindario, Cruce de Arinaga, Aquimes, El Cardon, Santa Lucia, Tirajana, Fataga, and Masplaomas.
Gran Canaria is well served with modern roads, so if you chose to buy a property in the resort centres of the south, it’s easy to tour round, and see the cultural landmarks of the island or combine business with shopping in the bustling capital of Las Palmas. Cardenas Real Estate can find you the perfect setting for your new home, in the busier commercial zones or in a more remote rural area.
