Happy New Year in El Faro de Maspalomas

After a dinner with the family or friends it is traditional to eat 12 grapes, one on each chime of the clock. It is usual to follow these chimes on TV. This year TVE (Spanish Television) will show the traditional 12 chimes from El Faro de Maspalomas. This tradition has its origins in 1909, when grape growers in Alicante thought of it as a way to cut down on the large production surplus they had had that year.

After the dinner most young people go to organized parties with friends.

Read more about the tradition at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year%27s_Eve#Spain

Presa de las Niñas

After the rain on the 26th of December Pilar was out for a walk in one of our beautiful dams on the island, Presa de las Niñas. There were nice water falls as this one here.

Here are some nice pictures:

Walking trails around San Mateo, Tejeda, Valsequillo, Santa Brígida

In Canarias 7, one of the most important local newspapers , I have found an online guide for walking trails around San Mateo, Tejeda, Valsequillo, Santa Brígida.

There are approx. 35 different routes in beautiful landscapes to choose from. Each route can be downloaded in a pdf file. In the pdf file there is a map and a description. This is the link: http://www.canarias7.es/ocio/ediciones/ed_senderos.cfm

Unfortunately this one is in Spanish. As soon as I find the english one I will publish the links here.

Good walking :-)

Walk Valsequillo-San Mateo and tribute for Pilar

Nine o’clock in the morning the bus starts driving from Arguineguín. After making some stops to pick up the rest of us we started heading for Valsequillo. Some of our colleagues also brought their children. We reached the village about 11 in the morning. Valsequillo is a little village high up in the mountains in the centre of the island.

In this part of the island the weather usually gets closer to the extremes – cold or really hot. This Saturday was a really warm and sunny day. We got prepared and began walking uphill surrounded by the amazing rock formations.

The two new Norwegians girls, Anne and Natalia, got soon ahead. As this had been their first week working for Cárdenas they had really been looking forward to this day to get to know everybody and for hiking in this beautiful and diverse landscape. The children were also very eager to walk and were especially entertained with the fauna of the area.

After walking for about two hours we reached the highest point on this track “Lomo de el Montañon”. Here we could enjoy the view of the capital of Gran Canaria Las Palmas.

We arrived to San Mateo around one o’clock.  We got together with the rest of our colleagues and went to see the market in San Mateo. Afterwards we found the way to the restaurant La Veguetilla.

The whole company had been planning for some time a tribute for a special and really appreciated colleague. Pilar has been working for Cárdenas for more than 15 years as part of the administration. After a fantastic meal the rest of the evening was dedicated to celebrate and honour Pilar.

Largest sand crib in Spain

Since 2006 the Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria organizes such a beautiful event. More than 300 tones of sand where used by numerous artists of different countries of all over the World. I have not seen it yet but I did last year and I really recommend it. After ut you can walk at the nice promenade and have lunch or just a nice “cortado” (Expresso).

Real Estate Course CRS Las Palmas 2009

We have been visiting several real estate specific courses in the last weeks among others the famous CRS Council of Residential Specialists, member of the National Association of Realtors NAR.

We think that a continuous training and courses are necessary and should be attended by all Realtors who want to keep a certain level of service to their clients. In order to be a good professional continuous training is necessary in the Real Estate Industry as well as in other fields where we are more used to it as medicine or IT among others. The Real Estate Market is changing in many of their fields as service, marketing, laws, taxation, among others and we need to be up to date in order to give our clients a high quality service today as well as tomorrow.
