The Gran Canaria government (Cabildo) has asked the Madrid authorities to include €11m in the state budget for the modernisation of the Arguineguín coastline.
The 2.5km stretch of coast between Las Marañueñlas beach and Anfi beach has been untouched for over 20 years and is in urgent need of a refurb. However, the Mogán local authorities, Gran Canaria government and Madrid central government have never been able to agree on funding.
A recent 500,000 euro investment of the Costa Alegre stretch by the La Lajilla natural pool has only highlighted the need to invest in the whole coastal boulevard.
The Cabildo has pointed out that similar coastal projects in other areas of the country, such as Andalucia and even Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, have received significant investment in recent years.
While this news does not mean that the work has a date, it does suggest that all parties are now actively engaged in looking for a solution that brings a much-needed improvement to the Arguineguín area of south Gran Canaria.
