Gran Canaria’s marinas, and especially the ones in its resorts, are the islands jewels. Strung out along the south coast each has its own personality and highlights and they are all fantastic places to visit.
One of Gran Canaria’s most exclusive locations with some of the most expensive property on the island. Pasito Blanco has recently got a lot more accessible as the ferries along the south coast now stop here. You can get the ferry from the island’s other marinas and then a bus on to Maspalomas. The marina’s restaurant right at the end of the harbour wall is great and there is even a little beach that you can only get to from the harbour. Otherwise there isn’t much to do in Pasito Blanco other than walk around and look at all the yachts.
Two marinas in one resort with a golden beach between them. Both are full of yachts and small pleasure craft. Puerto Escala to the west is where the sailing school is based while Puerto Base is home to the resorts big game fishing, day trip boats and ferries. You can walk round the marinas and there are places to eat and drink close to both.
Mogán is known as Little Venice and is the prettiest of Gran Canaria’s harbours. It’s quite modern but looks like a traditional fishing village with white houses, fish restaurants and bougainvillea arches. On Fridays a souvenir and craft market takes over the harbour wall and is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
Mogán is a great place to wander about looking at the boats and feeding the fish before choosing a spot for a delicious fish lunch (although you can eat everything in Puerto de Mogán from authentic pasta to Chinese food).
Arguineguín is the working harbour of the south of Gran Canaria but is still a pretty place for a stroll. It’s where the tuna and inshore fishing boats that provide fresh fish for the island’s restaurants are based. The fishing cooperative restaurant right by the boatyard is a local favourite and there are plenty of other choices along the beach and the coast. Like the harbour, Arguineguín town has a much more local feel than other spots in the south of Gran Canaria. See this post for our favourite Arguineguín restaurants.
The newest of the marinas in the south of Gran Canaria, Anfi is right next to a beautiful island covered in palm trees and green gardens and the island’s most tropical beach with white sand and coconut trees. Visit Anfi for family fun on the calm beach and for all kinds of watersports.
