You may already know that the south of Gran Canaria offers sunshine, warm tempertures and fantastic beaches all year around. But part of the beauty of living on Gran Canaria is also to visit the lively capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Not only because since the application of Las Palmas for being Cultural Capital of Europa 2016 you can enjoy lots of cultural events in the city. For example right know you can visit an exhibition of world famous war photographer Robert Capa. His work will be presented until the 30th of december in the museum for Modern Arts in the old town of Las Palmas. Among others you can see very impressive pictures of the civil war in Spain, the second world war and pictures of his friends like Pablo Picasso

You can visit the museum from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. and Sundays from 10.00 a.m. to 2.pm.

Right around the corner, on square San Antonio Abad, you can find another building which is part of the Museum. Until the 9th of January you can enjoy an exhibition of video and photography art there – also very recommendable with many of the videos in english language.

Next door you can find the museum of Christopher Kolumbus. Also really worth a visit!

The best of all: all those three museums and exhibitions are totally for free!

We think right now is the best time to visit the old town of Las Palmas. Not at least because of the wonderful Christmas lightning (which you can see on the pictures) which you can enjoy in the silent and narrow alleys of the old town of Las Palmas. Also really worth seeing. The Christmas Crip made of sand on Canteras Beach in the north of the city.
